Klaviyo Configuration Guide

This guide covers the steps required to connect your hotspot to your Klaviyo account to create Profiles as New Guests co

This guide covers the steps required to connect your hotspot to your Klaviyo account to create Profiles as New Guests connect to your Guest WiFi. Multiple integration rules can be created allowing you to sync your hotspots data to unique lists or groupings depending on your use case requirements.

First time setup

  1. Login to your Smart WiFi dashboard
  2. Using the menu panel to the left, select Integrations > Mailer Apps
  3. Click the Klaviyo tile to add a new rule
  4. Select the Hotspot(s) you would like this sync rule to apply to
  5. Click the Connect Klaviyo button to display a Klaviyo login inside a pop up window
    1. Complete the Klaviyo Login
    2. Click Continue to trust the application
    3. Click Allow to allow the required permissions for the application
    4. Click Submit to connect your accounts and create the rule
  6. Now on the Integrations list page, click Edit on your new Rule
  7. Now that your accounts are connected you can select the Klaviyo List you would like this hotspot's guest data to be synced to.
  8. Click Submit to save changes

Creating additional sync rules

You can create as many Integration rules as needed to support your use case needs. Once you have connected your account when you click the Klaviyo tile on the Integrations page you should be able to select your desired hotspot and list without completing step 5 in the First time setup instructions.

Profile Synchronization behavior

As Guests connect to the WiFi the following data (if it is available) will be transmitted to Klaviyo to create & update profiles.
  • Email
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Mobile Phone
    • Mobile phone numbers must be in E.164 format or they will be ignored by Klaviyo. The hotspot SMS Login method will enforce this by default.
  • External Id
  • Klaviyo Profile Consent status
    • Profiles created through the integration rule will be generated using the Email subscription status "Never Subscribed"
    • If a guest Unsubscribes as part of connecting as a New Guest a profile will be generated using the Email subscription status "Unsubscribed"
    • If a guest profile is moved from Subscribed to Unsubscribed from the dashboard's Guest Profile page or the Guest Profile Manager, the profile in Klaviyo will be updated to Email status "Unsubscribed"
    • If a guest profile is moved from Unsubscribed to Subscribed from the dashboard's Guest Profile page or the Guest Profile Manager, the profile in Klaviyo will be updated to Email status "Subscribed"
    • Profiles with a mobile number will be created with the Text messaging marketing and Text messaging transaction status "Never Subscribed"
  • Custom properties
    • Last visit date
      • The last timestamp we have of this guest connecting to a hotspot under your account.
    • Last visited hotspot
      • The last hotspot under your account that this guest connected to.
    • Visited hotspot
      • This will be a list of all the hotspots under your account that this guest has ever connected to.
